Edison from Peru
Please, tell us a bit more about yourself and your life, what are your interests?
I am a 15 year old teenager, my name is Edison Ccallocunto Pacotaye and I live in the town of Unión Potrero which belongs to the indigenous people of Quispillaccta. I am an animal and nature lover and I also like football. My interests are everything that benefits nature, whatever benefits it.
General Comment No. 26 is in force from September 2023. How important is it for your work?
It is important for children and future generations to live in a healthy, wholesome and sustainable environment. It also serves as a reminder to governments and adults that they must do their job to take care of children and Mother Earth.
What are the most important issues for children related to the environment and climate change in your community, country or region?
The most important thing is to prevent climate change, for example, in my community there are droughts, frosts, forest fires, heavy rains, but unlike other villages we are prepared, for example we have our rainwater ponds ready to be filled during the rainy season so that we can take advantage of them in the dry season.
Can you share an outstanding activity for children and young people that is being carried out in your community or country to help or protect the environment?
To help Pachamama we, the children and young people of the Maqta Chuya children's and youth network, raise rainwater ponds, plant trees, putaccas (Mother of Water plant), among others. Our work is to take care of the environment, which we see as a living being just like us.
You are working hard to protect the environment. Do you have a personal dream that inspires you?
Yes, I plant trees. My dream is to see my village green all year round.
