You are here:
Hello Ranjan, nice to meet you. Please tell us a bit more about you and your life. And what are your interests?
I am Ranjan Paudel from Nepal. I am the central secretariat member of Nepal Youth Network for Sustainable Development.
Currently I have just completed my final exam of graduation. My major interests are reading news and article, using social medias and to engage in different campaigns.
Why is this environmental issue important to you?
Environmental issues is not only the issue of single person. It's the issues of every individuals and becomes a global issues. It's directly related with my every steps of breathe. So its very important to me and have to protect as well.
What are the most important issues for children related to the environment and climate change in your community/country/region?
There are different issues of children related to the environment and climate change in my areas. In my community, due to deforestation, landslides and blockage in roads many children are unable to travel their school properly. Before some years, due to worst environmental pollution, people are unable to breathe and all educational institutions was closed for a week. So due to high carbon emission, global average temperature is increased and its effecting all of us. And the child are most vulnerable ones. Due to irregular change in seasons, everything is not going normal as earlier. So children are unable to take clear breathe, their immune power are less, they are suffering from many diseases and unable to get good future.
What are you doing to protect the environment?
Individual, I am reducing the use of plastics and the things which are made from the plastics. Instead of those things I prefer to use other usable ones. I don't throw the waste anywhere and aware everyone to be a responsible one.
Along with that, throughout the our youth networks we are doing so many things to conserve the environment. We are raising the voices and doing lobby with governments and different stakeholders for the good policy, implementation and monitoring. We are also conducting rallies, other awareness campaigns, trainings, seminars about climate, environment and our roles to preserve.
Can you share with us a good children and youth activity happening in your community or country to help or protect the environment?
Yes, there are so many examples that different youths and children groups are doing various things at there own areas. Recently a school level child club located in Ramechhap of Nepal have declared their school as plastic free zone. The have done this collaborating with school, municipality and different organisations. Youth clubs from Mandan Deupur are conducting plantation, sanitation and other different campaigns. Youth and child clubs from both city area and rural area are organising different competitions, programs, trainings, awareness campaigns and many more thing to preserve environment.
You are working quite hard to protect your environment! Do you also have a personal dream?
Yes, of course. I have my personal plans as well. I want to be a entrepreneur and diplomat.
