What do you do in your project (activities and issues)? /Qué haces en tu proyecto (actividades y temas)?
I am a senior member of the leaders’ committee of the Citizen Child Youth Media Project(CCYMP). This is a youth driven media project that seeks to empower disadvantaged young people with media skills to use as an advocacy tool on the issues affecting them in their communities. We also, write and post stories as well as present and produce media products for television and radio. Moreover, as president of the International Youth Network( IYN), Zimbabwe chapter, My duty is to oversee, organize and assist the participating young people in publicity of their activities, most of those in the Global Action Month for the growth of the network.
Why are you active for children’s rights? Por qué militas en favor de los derechos de los ninos?
For as long as i can remember, my relationship space had young people from bitter, unforgiving, broken backgrounds and families, not that i have it too, but my passion to HELP people, i believe drags me towards the need. In 2013, the CCYMP and the Chitungwiza Junior Council( space for young people in local governance) gave me the platform to get firsthand knowledge on how girls and young women are deprived of opportunities to develop themselves, assist their families and develop their communities. Cultural practices fostering these circumstances like child marriages, rape and making the girl child a second class being, are commonplace in the township where I live. Having grown up within the same circumstances, I have a deep understanding of what it feels like to have to fight for opportunities even just as a young person acknowledging gender.
